7

Sa'i — Safa to Marwa × 7

Walk 7 times between Safa and Marwa ending at Marwa. Men jog between the green lights. Begin at Safa.

✂️ Step 8 — Halq or Taqsir

Halq (Shaved): Shaving the entire head — more virtuous. The Prophet ﷺ made dua for those who shave thrice vs once for those who trim.

Taqsir (Trimmed): Trimming at least one inch all around. Women only trim a fingertip's length — shaving is not permissible for women.

🎉 After Halq/Taqsir, Ihram restrictions are lifted and Umrah is complete. Alhamdulillah!

Hajj Timeline
Day-by-day journey — Dhul Hijjah 8–13

Day of Arafat — The Pinnacle of Hajj

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Hajj is Arafat." Standing on the plain of Arafat on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah is the single most important act — without it, Hajj is invalid.

Day 1 — 8 Dhul Hijjah · Yawm al-Tarwiyah

Enter Ihram → Travel to Mina

Enter Ihram for Hajj. Recite Talbiyah continuously. Travel to Mina after Fajr. Pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha and Fajr in Mina — shortening but not combining prayers.

📍 Mina — Tent City
Day 2 — 9 Dhul Hijjah · Yawm Arafat

Wuquf at Arafat → Night at Muzdalifah

Travel to Arafat after Fajr. Pray Dhuhr & Asr combined at Masjid Namirah. Stand on the plains making dua, dhikr, and istighfar from Dhuhr until sunset. Depart after sunset to Muzdalifah. Pray Maghrib & Isha combined. Sleep under the open sky. Collect 49–70 pebbles.

📍 Arafat → Muzdalifah
Day 3 — 10 Dhul Hijjah · Eid al-Adha

Rami · Slaughter · Halq · Tawaf al-Ifadah

1. Rami: Stone only Jamarat al-Aqabah (7 pebbles). 2. Hady: Sacrifice an animal. 3. Halq/Taqsir: Shave or trim — first partial release from Ihram. 4. Tawaf al-Ifadah: Travel to Makkah, perform 7 rounds. 5. Sa'i (if not done in Umrah). Return to Mina.

📍 Muzdalifah → Mina → Makkah → Mina
Days 4–5 — 11–12 Dhul Hijjah · Ayyam al-Tashreeq

Rami of All Three Jamarat

Stone all three pillars each day in order: Sughra → Wusta → Aqabah (7 pebbles each = 21/day). Make dua after Sughra and Wusta. Those leaving on Day 12 must depart before sunset (Nafar al-Awwal).

📍 Mina — Jamarat Bridge
Day 6 — 13 Dhul Hijjah · Optional

Final Rami → Tawaf al-Wada'

Those who stayed stone all three pillars (21 pebbles). Travel to Makkah. Before leaving, perform Tawaf al-Wada' (Farewell Tawaf — 7 rounds). The last act before leaving Makkah.

📖 The Story of Hajar ﷺ

Ibrahim ﷺ left Hajar and infant Ismail ﷺ in the barren valley of Makkah by Allah's command. When the water ran out, Hajar ran desperately between Safa and Marwa seven times looking for help. Allah sent Jibreel ﷺ, who struck the ground, and Zamzam water gushed forth. Every step of Sa'i commemorates her trust in Allah ﷻ.

Practical Tips
Expert guidance for a smooth and spiritually enriching pilgrimage
🌡️
Heat Management

Makkah reaches 45°C+ in summer. Carry a spray bottle, drink 3–4L water daily, use an umbrella, and avoid midday sun on open paths.

👣
Footwear & Walking

Break in sandals before Hajj. You may walk 20–30km during Hajj. Use blister prevention tape and bring lightweight footwear.

🕐
Crowd Avoidance

Perform Tawaf after Fajr or late at night for fewer crowds. The upper floors of the Haram are also less congested.

📍
Don't Get Lost

Memorize your hotel name, area and phone number. Take a photo of the hotel facade and keep the card in your pocket at all times.

🤲
Maximize Your Dua

Keep a personal dua list. Best times: Arafat, in Tawaf, between Adhaan and Iqamah, during Sujood, and at the Multazam.

😌
Patience & Tolerance

You will face crowds and delays. The Prophet ﷺ forbade arguing and immorality in Hajj. Stay calm, help others, and make dua.

🌊
Zamzam Water

Drink at coolers throughout the Haram. You can carry 5L in checked luggage home. Drink with intention and dua.

📖
Learn Before You Go

Study the fiqh of Hajj, learn the duas, understand the history of each site. Intention + knowledge = Hajj Mabrur.

📖 The Qibla in Islam

Allah ﷻ commands in the Quran (2:144): "Turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you are, turn your faces toward it." The Qibla direction is obligatory for all five daily prayers, funeral prayers, and the slaughter of animals. The great circle direction — not the rhumb line — is the scholarly accepted method for calculating Qibla.

Quran on Hajj
Contextual ayahs and tafsir for every Hajj and Umrah ritual
Hajj — The Command
Al-Imran 3:97
Surah Al-Imran • Ayah 97
"And due to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House — for whoever is able to find thereto a way."
This ayah establishes Hajj as a Fard (obligation) upon every Muslim who is physically and financially able to undertake the journey at least once in their lifetime. The scholars of Islam unanimously agree this is one of the five pillars of the Deen.
The Kaaba — House of Allah
Al-Baqarah 2:125
Surah Al-Baqarah • Ayah 125
"And We made the House a place of return for the people and a sanctuary. And take the standing place of Ibrahim as a place of prayer."
This ayah establishes the Kaaba as a place of spiritual return (mathabah) — people continuously return to it — and the command to pray 2 rak'ahs at Maqam Ibrahim after Tawaf. The word "amnā" (sanctuary) means all lives and souls are protected within the Haram.
Tawaf — Circling the Kaaba
Al-Hajj 22:29
Surah Al-Hajj • Ayah 29
"And let them perform Tawaf around the Ancient House."
Allah ﷻ directly commands Tawaf around the Kaaba, which He calls "al-Bayt al-Ateeq" (the Ancient House), signifying its antiquity from the time of Adam ﷺ and its freedom from the ownership of any human. This is the direct Quranic basis for Tawaf al-Ifadah in Hajj.
Sa'i — Safa and Marwa
Al-Baqarah 2:158
Surah Al-Baqarah • Ayah 158
"Indeed Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs Umrah — there is no blame upon him for walking between them."
This ayah was revealed in response to the Companions' hesitation about performing Sa'i because those hills had pre-Islamic idols. Allah confirmed Sa'i is from His Signs (sha'a'ir). The word "sha'a'ir" means visible markers of worship — and walking Sa'i is therefore a public declaration of obedience to Allah.
Arafat — Day of Standing
Al-Baqarah 2:198
Surah Al-Baqarah • Ayah 198
"But when you depart from Arafat, remember Allah at al-Mashar al-Haram (Muzdalifah)."
This ayah instructs pilgrims to make abundant dhikr at Muzdalifah after departing Arafat. "Al-Mashar al-Haram" refers to Muzdalifah specifically. The Prophet ﷺ stopped here, prayed Fajr, and made extended dua facing the Qibla until the sky became bright — following this Sunnah is highly recommended.
Building the Kaaba — Ibrahim & Ismail
Al-Baqarah 2:127
Surah Al-Baqarah • Ayah 127
"And when Ibrahim was raising the foundations of the House and Ismail, saying: Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing."
This moving ayah captures Ibrahim and Ismail ﷺ building the Kaaba with their own hands, brick by brick, while continuously making dua for acceptance. It teaches us that even the greatest acts of worship require humility and a plea for acceptance — no deed is guaranteed. This dua is recited at the end of Sa'i.
Zamzam — Allah's Provision
Ibrahim 14:37
Surah Ibrahim • Ayah 37
"Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in a valley without vegetation, near Your sacred House…"
Ibrahim ﷺ's dua when he left Hajar and infant Ismail in the barren valley of Makkah. His trust in Allah ﷻ was so complete that he could leave his family in a desert with nothing — and Allah answered by causing Zamzam to spring forth and sending caravans to settle there. The entire city of Makkah grew from this act of tawakkul.
